No-land Bands is a series of four concerts of improvised music. Each event will be dedicated to stories of one city in the Middle East. There will be at least two performers with Middle Eastern instruments who are familiar with the music of the area and will define the main theme of the performance. The themes will be free melodic interpretations of known traditional motifs or tunes from that area.
The musical experience will be accompanied by a visual journey as well. We will be working with visual artists to produce video art installation which will be projected on a screen during the show. The video art will be inspired by the city that will be be presented in the Middle East. Through this setting, a triangular relationship between audience, musicians and places is being shaped. The musical and visual experience will literally put the audience in those places, transforming their understanding of a specific geographical location. These short journeys will take away all the abstraction and numbness of what we hear on everyday news , and replace it with a humane and tangible experience.

Many Tunes, One Melody: Muslim Arts Series
To create the AtoZ Music App for the exhibit America to Zanzibar: Muslim Cultures Near and Far, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan commissioned six musicians to play instruments representing a range of Muslim communities and geographical locations. Each musician recorded their music separately. When the musical tracks were blended through the app, the results were wonderful, with the melodious combination of sounds surprising even the musicians themselves.
In collaboration with composer Dan Kurfist, the Children’s Museum unites these artists in a series of evening performances designed to bring the AtoZ Music App to life. Join us to explore the cultural aspects of music and embark on a collaborative musical jam session.
